Educational Programme

educational-programThis stage covers grades 5 and is made up of the same core and foundation subjects found in grade 3 and4  Much of the work in this year groups is ‘cross curricular’, which means that one theme is covered by several subjects.

Topics are structured to allow children the freedom to explore new subjects in a stimulating way, encouraging a natural enthusiasm for more independent learning. In grade 5 the reading and spelling homework, experienced the previous year, is supplemented with written work, which increases and projects are introduced to reinforce concepts.
Our teaching programme is based on the best of the international curriculum with due amendments made in recognition of our international setting. Information & Communication Technology (ICT)

The Importance of ICT Education

“The world is changing fast: many of the most popular jobs today did not exist 20 years ago. While we can be sure that the amount of change children and young people will face as they grow up will be great, the precise nature of that change is more difficult to predict. We must make sure that young people leave education prepared to cope with uncertainty, risk and change. So, as well as teaching, the traditional knowledge and skills that have always been important in schooling, including literacy and numeracy, it is more important than ever that our education system equips young people with a broader set of personal, learning and thinking skills. Including resilience, confidence, and the abilities to think analytically and creatively; to learn and research; to be active citizens and agents of change; to work with others and in teams; and to manage themselves.”

The Aims of the ICT Department
  • To equip all learners with the experiences and skills of ICT that they will use in a rapidly changing technological world.
  • Develop an environment within the classroom, where all individuals enjoy a sense of personal dignity and status and feel confident of their own equal worth and value.
  • Provide a broad and balanced ICT curriculum, providing experience within and beyond the limits listed in the National Curriculum requirements; and which offers excellence and rigour, and stimulates a sense of curiosity and excitement about their world.
  • Enable pupils to discover their full potential whilst taking responsibility for their own learning
  • Encourage students to work both collaboratively (in pairs or as part of larger groups) and independently as required, and to show respect for the ideas, different capabilities and different backgrounds of all the members of a class or group.
  • Create an active partnership between home and school, seeking to develop and to make use of the talents of members of the school and of the wider community, whilst keeping parents fully informed and involved in their children’s education.
  • Develop in the students an understanding of the social; economic and ethical issues arising from ICT use.
  • Encourage students to review/ evaluate their own work and progress
  • Create in every student, a confidence in their ICT skills and an awareness of how to use it in the most effective way.
  • Give every student the opportunity to develop their ICT capability to an extent where they can use it effectively to enhance their progress at work, college or university.
  • Develop strong cross-curricular links with the other departments within the school, encouraging both students and staff to use ICT approaches where appropriate; provide ICT support for non-ICT staff as required.
  • Inculcate in the children a growing awareness of how ICT is used in the world around them and of the benefits that it provides.
Pakistan studies

In History and geography, students acquire and apply knowledge, skills and understanding in five main areas:

  • Chronological understanding
  • Knowledge and understanding of events, people and changes in the past
  • Historical interpretation
  • Historical enquiry
  • Organisation and communication
  • Maps
  • Landscapes
  • Minerals

In pre IGCSE the aim is to give students a firm foundation upon which to build in subsequent years. Throughout grade 6 and 7 the curriculum is designed to promote:

  • Source analysis techniques
  • Independent learning
  • Collaborative learning
  • Hypothesis testing
  • Good practice when undertaking research
  • Use of ICT

Particularly in grades 6 and 7 the themes that students study allow a greater understanding of continuity and change across time. This is a vital element in both the IGCSE and A levels curriculums. In addition to this, they are required to give deeper thought to the dual ideas of cause and consequence.

parent-teacher-meetingCommunication with Parents

Home and school—everyone shares the goal of helping children learn and feel successful. Research has proven that when parents and teachers work together, everyone benefits: Students tend to earn higher grades, perform better on tests, attend school more regularly, have better behaviour, and show more positive attitudes toward themselves and toward school. School programmes that include strong parent involvement are more effective.
PISES establishes an effective home-school partnership for both teachers and parents to create a trusting, equitable relationship. Parents can talk frequently with school personnel about their child’s grades or misbehaviour. PISES provides an opportunity to develop a cooperative partnership with teachers. Parents are always welcome to make an appointment to see a Teacher, Coordinator and the Principal. Two formal parent teacher meetings are held in a year to facilitate communication.

rewardsCommendations and Rewards
